📌 When we report what another person said, the tense usually moves one step back into the past.
| Direct Speech | Reported Speech | Example |
| Present Simple | Past Simple | “I work a lot.” → He said he worked a lot. |
| Present Continuous | Past Continuous | “I am studying.” → She said she was studying. |
| Present Perfect | Past Perfect | “I have finished.” → He said he had finished. |
| Past Simple | Past Perfect | “I visited London.” → She said she had visited London. |
| will | would | “I will call you.” → He said he would call me. |
| can | could | “I can help.” → She said she could help. |
| must | had to | “I must leave.” → He said he had to leave. |
🌟 The main pattern
Present → Past
Past → Past Perfect
will → would
can → could
must → had to
💬 Simple structure
said + (that) + sentence
